First Coin Bought Upon Entry
Wang Jingyi’s first encounter with cryptocurrencies was in 2017 when discussions about cryptocurrencies were less prominent than they are today, with limited Chinese information and closed communities. Introduced by a senior in the military, he ventured into the Web3 world.
Despite modest English skills, his curiosity was piqued by this novel technology. Delving deeper, Wang started studying cryptocurrencies in his spare time, educating himself through English resources. It wasn’t until 2018 that he made his first substantial investment in cryptocurrencies.
When asked about his “first coin” in the crypto world, most would opt for mainstream options like Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH). However, Wang, known for his adventurous nature, had a different answer.
“The first coin I bought in crypto was from an ICO,” Wang Jingyi chuckled. Introduced by a friend, he made the investment decisively, with minimal research.
Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) stirred an investment frenzy in 2017. However, many ICOs turned out to be flashy but insubstantial, lacking real goals or value, and most ended abruptly.
Wang Jingyi noted that his investment experience left a deep impression. Fortunately avoiding ICO scams (although current prices have plummeted), he managed to multiply his initial investment significantly. “I invested 150,000 yuan at the time and eventually made 4 million yuan.”
However, the gains quickly returned to the market, teaching him firsthand the high risks and returns of investing in cryptocurrencies
