Taobao Taiwan announced a partnership with Jkopay, a local payment service, to provide more convenience for Taiwanese users, especially students and those without credit cards. Jkopay is the only electronic payment platform in Taiwan that directly connects with 29 major banks. Through this collaboration, Taobao users can choose Jkopay as a payment method without the need to bind a credit card. Payments can be made through bank accounts or prepaid methods, allowing groups such as college students who do not have credit cards to easily shop without incurring a 1.5% overseas transaction fee.
Jkopay’s General Manager, Fan Tingzhen, expressed the hope that through Jkopay’s advantage of having a large number of verified users, Taiwanese consumers will no longer need to repeatedly input payment information or undergo identity verification when using Taobao. They can use this new payment method for cross-border shopping without the need for a credit card and also accumulate Jkopay points as rewards.
Taobao Taiwan’s General Manager, Liu Huijuan, stated that the introduction of Taiwan’s leading electronic payment brand, Jkopay, enables consumers who previously lacked credit cards to purchase cross-border products on Taobao. This also supports local partners in further expanding cross-border shopping opportunities, bringing about cross-border growth dividends.
In addition to the partnership with Jkopay, Taobao also offers various payment options such as Visa, JCB, Citibank account payment, and Jkopay to meet different consumer needs and provide more flexibility.
In 2024, in addition to site-wide promotions, Taobao Double 11 will launch the “First Purchase Red Packet” program for new users. New users who register a Taobao account can immediately receive a 60 yuan (approximately NT$270) shopping voucher. First-time purchasers will also enjoy exclusive services such as free local returns, zero taxes and fees, and no payment processing fees.
Furthermore, this year, Taobao offers free shipping for over 10 billion items on the entire site. Customers who spend over 99 yuan (approximately NT$445) can choose to pick up their purchases at 7-Eleven or have them delivered for free by sea shipping.
