The annual forum FinTechOn focuses on virtual asset regulation and anti-fraud
The fourth FinTechOn forum, guided by the National Development Council of the Executive Yuan and organized by the Taiwan FinTech Association (TFTA), will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei on November 4, 2024.
Key speakers to be featured at FinTechOn 2024 include: Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief FinTech Officer of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS); Peter Kerstens, Digital Finance and Cybersecurity Advisor at the European Commission’s financial department; Seiji Yuki, Executive Director of the Japan Virtual Currency and Cryptocurrency Exchange Association (JVCEA) and co-founder and Executive Director of the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association (JCBA); Brian Byagaba, FinTech Head at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM); Angelina Kwan, former Managing Director and Regulatory Compliance Director at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange; and Huang Hsi-Wen, Head of Securities Firms Management at the Securities and Futures Bureau of the Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan, as well as Luo Wei-Yuan, Chief Prosecutor at the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office in Taiwan.
The theme of the FinTechOn 2024 forum is “Towards Dawn: Virtual Asset Regulation and Anti-fraud Action,” and will bring together top companies, regulatory agencies, government officials, law enforcement agencies, and influential figures shaping the future of global financial technology. The event will open 350 physical seats for registration. For registration information, please see the link.
Taiwan FinTech Association Honorary Chairman Cai Yuling said, “Financial technology is not just a revolution in finance and technology, it has also greatly changed human behavior, and even the overall operation of the economy and society. AI and blockchain are the two key technologies shaping the future of financial technology and pose great challenges for us. At this critical turning point, FinTechOn 2024 has created a unique platform to invite everyone to exchange international experiences, form a more suitable regulatory environment, and effectively combat crime.”
Another highlight is that the Asia FinTech Alliance (AFA) will also participate in the FinTechOn annual forum for the first time.
AFA is an international alliance officially formed at the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) last year (2023) and currently has 14 FinTech associations as members, representing 14 Asian economies. It is led by Cai Yuling, serving as the first chairman of AFA.
According to a report released by the FBI last month, the amount of fraud related to cryptocurrencies reported by victims in 2023 exceeded $5.6 billion, an increase of 45% from the previous year. Cross-border joint defense and public-private cooperation are crucial to addressing the increasingly urgent challenges. The forum will also showcase real cases to highlight the effectiveness of law enforcement and industry cooperation in combating fraud.
In addition, AFA members will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to initiate international cooperation in cross-border anti-fraud efforts and, for the first time, jointly release the white paper “Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves: Exploring the Frontiers of Financial Technology” with KPMG. AFA members will participate in these two important events both online and offline.
