Quantum Biology DAO Raises Funds Far Exceeding Target
When anything is intertwined with quantum, it instantly gains a sense of future and mystery. The same can be said for quantum biology.
Just this month, the Quantum Biology DAO raised 1724.02 WETH, worth approximately $6.886 million, in a token auction on BIO Protocol. The funds raised far exceeded the original target, reaching 1344.74% of the goal.
The auction attracted a total of 1032 bids, with 635 successful transactions. If we consider each successful bidder as an individual investor, the average investment per investor was over 2.7 ETH (equivalent to approximately $10,840 at the time).
Notably, one address successfully invested as much as 71.6 ETH in a single transaction. Additionally, another investor expressed an intention to invest as much as 88 ETH in one transaction. Unfortunately, their bid did not reach the final closing price, and they were unable to acquire the tokens.
So, what exactly is “Quantum Biology DAO,” with an average investment of over $10,000 per person? What mysteries and prospects does it hold in the field of quantum biology?
What is Quantum Biology DAO?
According to an article titled “The Future of Quantum Biology” published in the Royal Society Interface, quantum biology primarily explores processes in living organisms that cannot be accurately described by classical physics laws. This includes examples of typical biological processes.
These processes include the transfer of electrons and/or vibrational energy, as well as the magnetic field effects in electron transfer and bird migration. Quantum effects are manifested as long-range effects (such as electron and proton tunneling) with characteristic temperature dependence, magnetic field effects, participation of superposition (or delocalization) states, and resonance effects. Quantum biology may also have significant impacts on various technologies, including sensing, health, environment, and information technology.
Quantum Biology DAO (referred to as QuantumBioDAO) also believes that quantum biology has tremendous potential impact on health and longevity, biomanufacturing, and the pharmaceutical industry.
QuantumBioDAO has already discovered that weak magnetic field effects in biology can be measured, and these weak fields can affect DNA repair, cellular oxidation (a critical mechanism for maintaining health), and cell division rate (a core mechanism for biomanufacturing).
In the view of QuantumBioDAO, the influence of quantum biology will further expand into other fields and industries in the future. By properly manipulating magnetic fields, we can make space travel safer, even nurturing life on other planets and ensuring food supply. Additionally, the long-lived quantum states that exist at room temperature in biology can inspire the construction of more advanced quantum computers.
The work of QuantumBioDAO is to bridge the gap between basic science and traditional venture capital, and to build a bridge between experts and the public in this field. They will also actively engage in related educational efforts to demonstrate the close connection and importance of quantum biology to the public, attracting more attention and investment in this field.
According to QuantumBioDAO’s vision, they also plan to support the development of new quantum instruments. Specifically, they aim to develop an optical microscope with nanosecond time resolution and optical detection of magnetic resonance, which can directly detect electron spin superposition states within cells without damaging them.
In addition, QuantumBioDAO aims to create and capture valuable intellectual property (IP) and accelerate the pace of development in quantum biology, supporting the launch of a series of quantum biology startups.
The Quantum Biology DAO Ecosystem
The Quantum Biology ecosystem consists of three autonomous entities: the Quantum Biology Institute, Quantum Biology DAO, and Quantum Biology Incubator.
The Quantum Biology Institute is a non-profit organization based in California, aiming to establish a knowledge foundation for future research and commercialization by verifying the operation of biology at the quantum level.
Quantum Biology DAO, legally belonging to a non-profit association in Switzerland (Verein), is dedicated to promoting basic scientific research in quantum biology, building a bridge between the institute and the incubator, and strengthening communication and connection between technical experts and the public in this field.
Quantum Biology DAO may retain relevant intellectual property rights or fund the development of instrument equipment and grant licenses to multiple parties.
Quantum Biology Incubator focuses on incubating startups that aim to commercialize quantum biology research, with the goal of becoming the preferred provider of instrument equipment and laboratory space for startups in the field of quantum biology.
Although the Quantum Biology Incubator has not been established yet, to coordinate incentives more effectively, the institute and DAO plan to hold partial shares in its establishment. This means that any successful graduates of the incubator will provide financial feedback to the institute and DAO, ultimately promoting full self-sufficiency.
QuantumBioDAO Token Design
In terms of token economics, the total supply of QBIO tokens is set at 1 billion. 20% of the tokens are allocated to the core team, which will be fully locked for one year and gradually released over eight years. 7% of the tokens are allocated to service providers, with no lock-up period.
Furthermore, 55% of the tokens are reserved in the treasury, 15% of the tokens are used for community auctions, also with no lock-up period, and the remaining 3% are allocated for community incentives.
As mentioned earlier, QuantumBioDAO successfully held a community auction on BIO Protocol, raising a total of 1724.02 WETH and attracting 635 addresses to participate. This means that 150 million tokens will be distributed to these 635 successful auction participants. The closing price of the auction was 0.00001149 WETH per QBIO token, which, based on the current price of WETH at $3300, translates to a price of $0.03447 per QBIO token.
As for the 3% community incentive portion, QuantumBioDAO stated that specific incentive plans will be developed based on the actual situation and needs of the community after the token auction ends.
Where Does QuantumBioDAO’s Revenue Come From?
Currently, QuantumBioDAO’s main source of revenue comes from the community auction mentioned above. In the future, if approved through the DAO governance mechanism, they may directly sell additional tokens to raise more funds.
Of course, token sales are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of QuantumBioDAO’s revenue diversification. QuantumBioDAO will also explore various other profit models, such as IP licensing. These IPs will cover a wide range of areas, including but not limited to magnetic field configuration, quantum biology instruments, licensed or anonymized patient data, or medical intervention measures handled and compiled by the DAO.
Additionally, QuantumBioDAO plans to support the construction of specific instruments, such as quantum microscopes and plug-and-play low-field chambers (for studying weak magnetic field effects), with the potential to generate profits through sales or licensing of these instruments.
It is worth mentioning that the commercial deployment of QuantumBioDAO’s incubator will also inject new vitality into the DAO’s treasury. Through the successful operation of the incubator and the deployment of commercial projects, QuantumBioDAO hopes to achieve continuous growth and diversification of revenue.
