What Happened?
Meta launched a brand new standalone AI application, “Meta AI,” at the AI developer conference “LlamaCon,” providing voice conversation and personalized experiences.
Designed with voice as its core, Meta AI acts as a personalized AI assistant to help users manage news inquiries and daily tasks. The application can offer tailored suggestions based on user behavior on the Meta platform.
Meta plans to integrate Meta AI with Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses to provide a more convenient voice interaction experience. At the same time, Meta introduced the developer platform Llama API to expand application scope and create an open AI ecosystem.
Meta Launches AI Application “Meta AI”
Recently, Meta officially launched a standalone AI application “Meta AI” at the company’s first AI developer conference “LlamaCon.” This application operates independently of Meta’s social platforms like Facebook and Instagram, allowing users to interact directly with the AI assistant. With enhanced personalized experiences and voice conversation features, Meta AI will compete directly in the market with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that “Meta AI” is designed with voice at its core, aiming to become the user’s personal AI assistant capable of assisting with news queries, handling personal events, and other daily interactions.
Specifically, the Meta AI application can establish a basic understanding of user interests based on data shared by users on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Users can choose to let the AI know information about themselves and their friends, providing more personalized suggestions.
Users can also provide additional personal information for the AI to remember in future conversations. For example, a user can inform the AI about lactose intolerance, and the AI will avoid recommending cheese-tasting activities in the future.
However, the foreign media outlet TechCrunch reminds users to be cautious about the information they share with Meta AI, as Meta heavily relies on user data for its advertising business, and precise advertising is one of Meta’s main sources of revenue.
Building an Open AI Ecosystem
Meta AI allows users to “solve problems by speaking,” and this design will also cater to users of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, enabling users to converse with Meta AI in real-time through their glasses for query tasks or advice. This type of software and hardware combination experience will also create new revenue models and ecological advantages for Meta.
At the LlamaCon conference, Meta officially announced the launch of the developer platform “Llama API,” which will allow third-party integration and expand the application scope of the Llama model. Additionally, Meta emphasized its commitment to enhancing model inference speed and allocating resources to combat AI-generated fraud, phishing, and other abuse issues.
Meta’s proactive strategy to establish an open AI ecosystem also appears to be a new layout beyond competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. From model development and application diffusion to security governance, Meta seems poised to become the “social platform for AI,” extending its community-based DNA into the AI arena.
