Solana Unveils Showtime Smartwatch
Solana’s Saga phone set a sales record thanks to its “airdrop” benefits, with prices on the second-hand market soaring to as high as $5,000 on eBay, despite its original price of just $999 (later lowered to $599).
Now, Solana’s ecosystem members have developed the Showtime smartwatch, a wearable device that combines AI and blockchain technology.
Developed by Hetaro Labs, an innovative technology company, Showtime’s CEO and Solana ecosystem veteran Ben Crox believes that the Human-Computer Interface will evolve to a completely natural level, just like getting dressed, snapping fingers, and speaking. He states, “Machines will know you, follow you, and understand you. The emergence of Showtime will bring us closer to this kind of life.”
Showtime itself is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 processor, has 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. Additionally, the watch runs on the Android operating system. Showtime also features an AMOLED display screen and supports GPS, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC technologies, allowing the watch to have basic interaction capabilities with other devices.
Of course, a smartwatch wouldn’t be complete without basic health monitoring features. Showtime comes with built-in motion and health sensors that can track user steps, heart rate, sleep patterns, and other indicators.
Combining AI + Web3 features
One of Showtime’s unique highlights is its AI companion, Show AI, which learns user habits and preferences to provide a predictive personalized experience. For example, it can recommend real-world activities that align with the user’s preferences, experiences, and abilities, and even provide airdrop tips based on the user’s risk preferences and investment portfolio.
Since Showtime operates on the Solana blockchain, the watch serves as your digital wallet, allowing you to conduct transactions, play blockchain games, and showcase NFT credentials stored in the wallet, all with the convenience of wearing Showtime.
In addition, Showtime has partnered with Coolso, a company with multiple patented technologies, to enable precise recognition of finger movements and their intensity, with quick response. For example, a simple fist bump can exchange business cards, and raising a hand can receive airdrop rewards from the wallet in the watch.
Creating a “Beyond Phone” Smartwatch
Why choose to create a smartwatch instead of releasing another phone? Ben Crox explained that after discussions with many different participants in the Solana ecosystem, many believed that achieving mass adoption and changing people’s lives with devices requires challenging the market’s biggest competitors like Samsung and Apple. However, top-tier phones are not only difficult for small teams to develop, but their prices also don’t easily attract consumers. On the other hand, a smaller and more convenient smartwatch would be a better choice for achieving mass adoption.
Ben Crox hopes that Showtime can change people’s perception of smartwatches and prove that the product is not just a tool for displaying time and monitoring health indicators but a high-functionality device that can be used for payments, social interactions, and even replace phones.
To achieve this goal, Ben Crox pays special attention to Showtime’s security design. Developers use blockchain technology’s multi-signature and voice authentication features to protect users’ security during payment and prevent theft.
Additionally, he is also aware that even with advanced technology, users are concerned about the preservation of information in case of loss or damage to the watch. Therefore, the Showtime team is committed to strengthening multi-factor authentication and enhancing data recovery capabilities.
Currently, Showtime has many ecosystem partners, including meme coin Bonk, game Genopets, and community 852web3. As the ecosystem expands, more features, gameplay options, and even airdrop rewards may be introduced, sparking user anticipation.
Showtime is now available for pre-order at a price of 3 SOL (approximately $450), and the product is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2025.
