Taiwan Mobile Ventures into Cryptocurrency Industry?
On July 5, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) announced the list of “virtual currency platform operators who have completed the anti-money laundering compliance statement,” with “Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd.,” ranked 26th. The company is led by Lin Zhi Chen, General Manager of Taiwan Telecom Corporation (Taiwan Mobile), who also serves as Chairman and Partner at AppWorks’ initial accelerator.

Furthermore, directors and supervisors at Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd. are key figures at Taiwan Mobile. Director Han Kunju is the Deputy General Manager of Taiwan Mobile’s New Technology Business Development and was involved in developing the Pi wallet at PChome. Supervisor Cai Qiyen serves as the Group’s Chief Information Officer.
According to trademark information from Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd., they have OP encrypted asset savings, OPcrypto, and OPcryptoex. Although these names are directly associated with the “cryptocurrency industry,” it’s not confirmed if they are directly linked to trading platforms.
Lin Zhi Chen, General Manager of Taiwan Mobile, has shown openness towards the Web3 industry. Through AppWorks’ initial accelerator, he has supported numerous related startups and expressed in an interview with “WEB3+” that “fiat currency will be considerably replaced in the next 20-30 years.” He elaborated that the new generation of currencies no longer requires government responsibility, marking one of the transformations brought by the Web3 wave to human society.
Initially recruiting Han Kunju from PChome as General Manager of Fusheng Digital, Taiwan Mobile was thought to further expand the “mo coin” ecosystem. However, the latest list approved by the FSC suggests a more complex situation.
Taiwan Mobile’s move is bound to stir up some waves in Taiwan’s cryptocurrency industry. The scrutiny will focus on how they interact with the government, how a major telecommunications company like Taiwan Mobile can adapt to the flexibility of the Web3 industry, and even the “pace” of all their actions.
