No Losers in Presidential Election! Cultural Power Will Surpass National Power
The January presidential election once again put the spotlight on Taiwan, and in my personal opinion, there were no losers.
The ruling party of the Green Camp secured the presidency, while the Blue Camp became the largest party in the parliament, serving as a significant supervisory force. What’s even more worth noting is that the third force, solely relying on small donations from the public, won eight seats in the proportional representation system, becoming a crucial minority in the parliament. Although the election process was tense and filled with hidden agendas, it did not cause significant ethnic divisions or social costs.
However, the election results clearly show that there are significant cognitive differences among different ethnic groups. The group that experienced the White Terror period strongly fears that another group will sell the country out, while the group that has enjoyed economic prosperity worries that Taiwan will continue to decline without a future. Many young people actively persuade their elders to listen to their opinions, even though they may be teenagers without voting rights.
So, who is right? And who is wrong? In fact, there is no right or wrong, just different people from different eras, different life experiences, different perspectives, and different choices.
The “Little Grass” from Taipei First Girls’ High School, who is now in middle age, sees the young people who support the White Power movement calling themselves “Little Grass.” Their feelings are mixed.
The emergence of blockchain, impacting like a war
Ten years ago, the older generation would get nervous when they saw things being sold on the internet, wondering if it was a scam. But now, children swipe their screens with their fingers, and laptops with screens that can’t be swiped are considered outdated. This is the generation gap! We actually live in parallel universes, each person living in a different world.
Because the world is changing too fast.
The emergence of the internet and blockchain has had a tremendous impact on the world, comparable to war and regime change!
The invention of blockchain stems from a lack of trust in the center, which, to put it plainly, is absolute power, namely the United States government.
Bitcoin (BTC), this decentralized ledger, is called “mining” for the act of validating transactions and sets a limit on its total supply, simulating gold. It is creating an immutable unit of central value for the future world.
But for over 90% of the world’s population, what on earth is blockchain and cryptocurrencies? Why is this virtual thing worth over $40,000? Even though the United States has already approved the issuance of Bitcoin futures ETF.
Bitcoin is simulating gold, creating an immutable unit of central value for the future world.
As for NFTs and Web3, there’s no need for discussion; they are simply 100% scams! Most people cannot comprehend what these young people are going crazy about…
Surpassing national power! “Cultural power” determines the future direction
But if we open our eyes and look closely, we will see that our elementary school campuses have already been flooded with the “Wu Li Fan Tai” dance from mainland China. Almost everyone can dance the “Subject Three,” a strange invention from a small town in Guangxi. It spreads like a virus, and no one can stop it.
The future world constructed by the internet and blockchain, Web3, will undoubtedly subvert human cognition as we know it. In that world, national systems and all old methods will be outdated. Who said there is no home without a country? In the future, we can all be citizens of the world, conducting our own businesses, making friends, and starting families in the metaverse, using currencies not issued by any central bank.
In the future, we can all be citizens of the world, conducting our own businesses, making friends, and starting families in the metaverse, using currencies not issued by any central bank.
And what truly determines the direction we will take is no longer the power of any nation or money, but “cultural power.”
This world is an organism, and as long as something aligns with the principles of economics, it will be invented, spread, used, and reproduced. It cannot be dominated by any individual or single will. And this is exactly what blockchain aims to achieve with decentralization!
So, starting from now, let’s abandon all preconceptions and observe and feel the changes in this world with an open heart. The future is actually very promising.
Opinion articles present diverse views and do not represent the position of “WEB3+.”
