John, who served as an intelligence officer in the US military and the Department of Defense for 15 years, had to remain anonymous due to the highly secretive nature of his work. He stated that his previous anonymous intelligence work and his current blockchain analysis work are both acts of being unsung heroes, as they involve assisting in blocking criminal organizations and tracing victims’ funds, all in the pursuit of doing good and fulfilling a sense of mission.
John shared that international blockchain crime cases are not much different from local cases in Taiwan, except for the scale of funds and the complexity of money laundering.
He explained that in an era where criminal organizations have formed industrial chains, the key to cracking cases lies in investigating the patterns used by these criminals. Understanding a crime pattern and an elaborate money laundering scheme allows for the detection of various criminal cases. John described combating blockchain financial crimes as a technological race, and he firmly believes that in this race, governments and compliant businesses will ultimately prevail.
Having spent a long time in intelligence work, John doesn’t take his personal security lightly. He mentioned that fraud techniques have upgraded to using AI for face swapping and voice changing. In such an environment, what precautions can we take to enhance our own cybersecurity defense?
